The City of Clemson is located in the northwestern portion of South Carolina in Pickens County. Clemson is surrounded by the nationally known Clemson University and, as a result, hosts many cultural and entertainment activities. If history is your interest, then adjacent to Clemson are the historic cities of Pendleton and Central, South Carolina. If water sports suit your taste, the 55,000 Acre Lake Hartwell forms the western border of the city. Lake Hartwell is one of the largest lakes in the southeast and plays host to fishing, swimming, boating, and just relaxing in the afternoon breeze.

Over the past thirty years, the population of Clemson has more than doubled. In 1970, the population was 6,700. By 2000, it had increased to over 12,000 residents.
Nearby Central is located in the southwestern section of Pickens County. The town's strategic location, half the distance between Charlotte and Atlanta, 23 miles west of Greenville, and 125 miles north of Columbia, allows for easy access to some of the southeast's most exciting cities.
The 2000 population of Central was 3,522. Central's population increased by 44% from 1990 to 2000. The town's residents are employed in a variety of occupations ranging from professional to blue collar jobs. Central prides itself on being a diverse and close knit community.
